Staff at Bluecube and family and friends of Bluecube Director Paul Reames raised over £2000 for a local charity this summer. The team scaled Ben Nevis, The UK’s highest mountain, in memory of Paul’s father John Reames and to raise funds for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice.

The team of eight raised a total of £2166.00 for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, Bluecube’s chosen charity and one that does some incredibly important work for the people of Lincolnshire. The team was made up of Bluecube team members Paul Reames, Jack Waby, Niall Gibson and Alex Mackinder. Other members of the team were Jeff Barlow, walking in memory of his wife Aileen Barlow who lost her fight with Cancer in October last year. Friends Laura Dunphy, Nigel Porter and Emily Carlill also scaled the 1345m mountain on the last weekend of May 2016.

The climb to the summit took 4 1/2 hours from the Ben Nevis visitor centre and the same time down as the team struggled with the afternoon heat on their descent. This was the second time Paul Reames had climbed Ben Nevis with his friend Laura Dunphy, who both reached the summit for the first time in 2009.

“Conditions were much better this year. When we climbed Ben Nevis 7 years ago visibility was terrible and there was a lot more snow further down the mountain” said Paul Reames. “Jeff was doing this for my Aunty who we lost to cancer in 2015 and I think at 68 years young he did an incredible job! The rest of the team supported each other on the way up and down and we celebrated our achievement in a local establishment later that evening! I would like to say thank you to everyone that sponsored our trek and helped to raise such an incredible amount of much need funding for St Barnabas” he added.
