Samsung Galaxy S24 – A new era of AI Mobile

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Samsung have unveiled their new flagship Galaxy handset, the S24.

Marketing the handset as the ‘new era of mobile AI’, Samsung have launched the first premium mobile handset with AI integration and are hoping to get an early start with the new technology. The new device is aimed to increase creativity, productivity and ‘possibility’ that starts with the most important and used device in your life… your smartphone.

The new AI features include ‘Circle to Search’ which has built upon the foundations of Google Lens. This combines image and text search into a single Google query, which allows you to search for any topic without changing apps. You can select what you’re curious about (through circling, highlighting, scribbling or tapping the screen) and get more information immediately. For example, if you’re scrolling through Instagram and see a shirt or pair of sunglasses you like, simple circle the image to find similar and buyable items across the web. Whenever a question pops into your head, such as watching a video where someone is eating something that looks delicious, you circle the food and ask, “What is this?”.

One of the coolest, although maybe unpractical features, is ‘Live Translation’. This allows real time intelligent language translations during phone calls. The translation is powered on the S24 so it doesn’t matter what device the other person is using, with calls also transcribed. This could be a desk phone, any smartphone and even a landline. This also includes text message translation.

AI photo editing is now available where you can edit photos with one-tap prompts. If you’ve taken a photo, AI will show one-tap prompts to remove shadows and reflections to make the picture better. The S24 has again built on Google and Adobe technology, where you can adjust a frames angle or even add chopped out sections to a photo. You can also move certain images to different parts within the photo frame, such as a photo of a cat from its bed to on the sofa.

AI integration has also been introduced to the Notes app where you can format and summarise text from rough ideas that have been jotted down.

In terms of traditional features, the new Galaxy boasts a 6.8 inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 12MP front camera. The main camera system consists of 4 lenses: 200MP Wide, 12 MP Ultra-Wide, 50MP Telephoto with 5x Optical Zoom and 10 MP Telephoto with 3x Optical Zoom.
